How to create a "dedicated serial port" ?

Hi folks,

we're running AIX4.3

Problem is: We need a dedicated serial port for our UPS software.

What exactly is this and how do we create it?

Probably you have to create a tty . Go to smit , devices , tty.

As mentioned in the previous message, use smit to "add a new tty". For UPS software most likely you will have to assure that in the "STTY" settings there is a value of "clocal" or your UPS might not be able to use the port. Otherwise, follow the instructions that must have come with the UPS software for speed, etc.
