I want to create a data entry form in either word or excel.
The form is to be used to align data for printing on pre printed multi-part paper(hence the need for a non-printing form) Only the data enterd should print, in the correct position, in the form.

Would any one know how this could be done in Word/Excel 2002 as a form or template.

The data does not have to be retained once printed.

Thanks.

Hi,

When you refer to a "form" are you referring to a UserForm Control Object or a form that you created directly in the document in Word or in a sheet in Excel?

Thanks for your speedy reply Skip,

It's a form created on Word/Excel. I'm trying to transfer a preprinted form to a computer so data can be entered via the computer and electronically printed rather then be hand written.

In Excel, you could use Format > Conditional Formatting... to make a cell contents "invisible" by changing the Font color to WHITE, assuming that the sheet background is white.

So as each part of the form is filled in, the "prompt" goes invisible.

BTW, are you using sheet protection so that the user cannot change the form prompts?

In Word, you could format the "prompts" as hidden text, making them visible onscreen but they wouldn't print by default.

For the form fields, use the Forms toolbar.

Hi,
Skip, although I learnt somthing new in Excel, Lilliabeth has offer the info I was after.
I created a table (making it non printing) entered the "prompts" making them hidden and used the cells to restrict the data entry to align with the boxes on the paper form.
Still have to do a bit of juggling but now have a solution.
I very rarely get a problem I can't google the solution to, but have always found the community here to be able to provide the answer. Thanks again to both of you.
