How to create a new SharePoint site?

Hello All,

I inherited a working intranet SharePoint site, now the client wants me to create another intranet site which would have a different URL, does anyone know how to accomplish this task? Would I have to create the new site in the central administration? Or create the new site in IIS? Please advice.

Best in Central Admin to create a new Site Collection with the new address. You can copy the sites across by creating Site templates and then uploading the template files into the new Site Collection Template Gallery.

Are you using 2007 or 2010?
