I need to create a series of bilingual English/French publications some of which are saddle-stitched and others cerlox bound. All publications are printed so that when you flip the publication on it's back and over, the corresponding other language page appears. For example, when you are reading the centerfold page in English, the English page appears right side up on the left side and the French page appears upside down on the right side.

Can I create or prepress assemble this kind "right side up/upside down" layout directly in Pagemaker, or do I have to create separate language pubs and have the printer manualy strip them together? I am an experienced user using version 6.5

You can do either. If your printer is okay with it, have them impose it. A good printer will have imposition software.

How would you impose this if you were only doing one language? You could tinker with PM's buildbooklet utility or work with an external imposition program ($$).

From my experience, most service bureaus would rather impose the pubs themselves. PM's booklet feature is weak, at best. You printer has probably invested in the imposition software, and understands how to use with their equipment.

With your sort of project I would create separate pubs, one in French, one in English. the letthe service bureau do what they do best, it will be easier for them to work this way than to try to print from a possibly butchered doc. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
