Environment: VMS and OpenVMS on VAC
The subject a decade ago was whether it was possible to copy VMS Backup saveset from take to disk.
If there still is someone out there who needs the proper answer to this question, here's my confirmation.
YES it is possible, if the tape is not mounted foreign. Here's an example:
[tt]
$ mount /over=iden mka500: /block=16334
%MOUNT-I-MOUNTED, DKA200 mounted on _NITRO$MKA500:
$ copy /log mka500:*.* []
%COPY-S-COPIED, MKA500:[]DKA200TAPE.BCK;1 copied to SYS$SYSROOT:[SYSMGR]DKA200TAPE.BCK;1 (32941 records)
%COPY-S-NEWFILES, 1 file created
[/tt]
The tape station was non-Digital TK70 tape station on the SCSI bus.
