How can I convert a DB9 connector to a RJ45 connection?

The Notel PBX has a DB9 connector for the T1, but the PBX will be removed and the same T1 circuit will be used with a RJ45 connector. I want to make up a cable with a DB9 end and the other end will have a RJ45 end. What should the pin out be, for the DB9 end? A diagram would be helpful if possible.

If you are removing the PBX then why do you need the DB9? You can also get an RJ45 to DB9 adaptor. I know the DB9 uses pins 1, 3, 9, & 11 I just can not remember where they go to the RJ plug, I think it was 1, 2, 4 & 5.

Depends on if you need a cross over cable or not.

Look again before you cut over. You will need a DB15 connector not a DB9

Option 1

DB 15 RJ
1 1
9 2
3 4
11 5

Option 2

DB 15 RJ
1 4
9 5
3 1
11 2

I have had to use either option on various sites

Are you sure you are not talking about a DB15 connector? As Hawks says, a DB15 connector uses pins 1, 3, 9, and 11. The RJ45 part uses 1,2,4,5.

Yes, it is a DB15 T1 connector. The PBX will be replaced with a VoIP solution and so the T1 circuit will be used on non-pbx equipment.

When would I use option 1 or option 2 pin out?

You would have to look up the pinouts for both and see if it is transmit or receive and wire accordingly. I usually have one of each and try them until one works and then make the rest to match.

in tpmans wiring scheme, opt 1 is with a csu, 2 is without.. but as posted, build both and see which one greens it up..

hint: not sure if your counting the pins right? loop one and two to four and five (rj) that will bring it up to a loop.. so will pins 1 and 3 to 9 and 11 or the db side..

from the smart jack.. pins 1&2 are common as well as pins 4 and 5... inside of the smart they are the same conductor..
