Hi,

I have RTF and doc files which contain images and I want to convert them to p6.5 format (pagemaker). In pagemaker when i choose the option auto flow and click of place and select RTF file which contains images and text, a message pop up saying cannot place embedded images.

Is there any solutions to this where in I can finish my project to the earliest.

Can you copy and paste images from the RTF document (in its original program) into PageMaker? This is not ideal but neither is using embedded images in an RTF document.

No i'am not able to copy an past the images...the error message i'am getting is "One or more graphic embedded within the text cannot be imported. Import the text anyway?" I'am not able to import doc files and even the tables created in word doc are being imported as table and is being imported as paragraph.

OK, there are several things you need to try. Presumably you can open this RTF doc in Word or some other word processing program?

My suggestion would be to right click on the graphic and see what it says under Properties. This will give you an indication of where the graphics files are stored (hopefully somewhere other than the RTF document). Or it may even allow you to cut them out and paste them in an independent folder until you can sort out the next step. The Properties should also tell you what file format these images are. Do you have access to a graphics program of some sort? Even the free Irfanview is better than nothing. Whatever file format the graphics are in, note down the filepath you may have been able to cut and paste them to, and see if you can open them in a graphics program. If you can, save them as a TIF if possible.

Then concentrate on getting rid of the graphics from the RTF. If you can do that, and leave just the text, you're nearly there. Make sure you use File>Place to get the text into PM, and also use File>Place to get the graphics in.

I realise there are lot of 'ifs' in this process, but post back to ask any more questions, and let us know which steps have been successful.

If the graphics are Word, have you tried installing the Word filter and using that to place the word doc? I generally do not recommend this method, but I have had jobs in the past of Word documents with the images embedded and that was the only solution that worked.

Or, strip out all images in one version and use File>Place to place the rtf text. Then on the version with images use a screen capture to get the images, use Photoshop to edit, crop and save them as TIFs and place them. I have done this in a pinch. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
