Hello.
How can I convert a domain user into a local user?
I have a windows domain with a windows 2000 server, and I want to switch to a workgroup, for various reasons I do not want the domain anymore. Users have a lot of settings, exchange email accounts, saved passwords and other things, and it just takes too much time to make new local users and recreate all that for a lot of users.

Thanks

I'm sure you just make the computer a workgroup.
If that for some strange reason fails, you could edit the registry hklm\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\profilelist and change the path

You should be able to simply take the PC out of the domain and switch it to workgroup.

Then create a new local user profile for the user and use the User Profiles tool in XP to copy the profile settings from the domain profile on the PC to the newly create local profile on the PC.

I've been doing the same in reverse to migrate workgroup users to a domain and it's worked without a hitch.

A million thanks Steve.
It worked like a charm, exchange settings and everything (some users didn't even know that something changed).
