I have to use IE often on my computer and sometimes minors use it for research work etc. I want to be able to control the web-sites that they visit accidently during their research work for homework. They can be shocked by the content and becuase of their youth they are impressionable at this age.

Is there any add-ware I use to do this?

Well, a simple, no-cost way is to go to Tools > Internet Options > Content then Enable the Content Advisor. This will block all non-rated sites and force you to enter a password to allow them access. You can also specifically allow certain websites if you approve of them.

I have done something really terrible. I have selected maximum security on all of the 4 options:

1) Sex
2) Nudity
3) Language
4) ???

I then had to choose a password, which I did, I was sure I entered the same password and one that I would remember. But I must have mistyped the password incorrectly twice because I can't access any website. Now any website address I type, I am requested for a password but I can’t remember it, even for sites like google, what can I do??? I can’t even change the rights back since I cannot remember the password. Please help urgently!!!!!!

The problem you are having is that there is an option to allow users to see sites with no ratings. You have that option turned off. Therefore, all sites with no ratings are blocked (this includes google and this site). By blocking all sites you could then enter sites that are allowable (like or
If you've mistyped your password and cannot remember it, I don't know how to help you. You may need to uninstall IE then reinstall it off your Windows CD.

Possible Solution: The password is held in the HKEY LOCAL
MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\Windows\Current Version\Policies\Ratings in a key labeled "key" delete this key and it will set the password to blank. Next, find and delete the file Ratings.pol. You've just deleted your original Content Advisor password. Restart the computer and run Internet Explorer again. Choose View, Internet Options, click on the Content tab, and click on Disable. When asked for a password, don't enter anything, just click on OK.
This will disable Content Advisor, since there's no longer a password. You can enable it again if you want as soon as you think up a more memorable password.
