How to control database size

How do you control the size of the databases in SPS?
We have a 56Gb drive and we only have 5.6Gb free. I am concerned that the users setting up the departmental sites are not managing the data very well.

I havent used it or really looked at it but on the SPS Admin page, go to Windows Sharepoint Services, Manage Quotas and Locks I think you can set limits there.
