How can I connect winxp laptop to a network environment?

Please note I have a network card but do not know what I need to do?

Please provide step by step instructions.

depends on network environment

physically, your network card needs connecting to a port on the network (is it a large office network, small home one - how is it set up?). If its a PCMCIA card it should have a CAT5 cable attached to it with a connector to plug into pot in the end. If its like a telephone socket connection, you'll need a CAT5 patch cable with a connector on both ends (to plug into notebook and network socket).

Once connected you'll need to join domain or workgroup which defines the network and if you're using TCP/IP network protocol, you'll need to be set up either with a static IP address in the right range or to pick up an IP address automatically, if there's a DHCPserver on the network.

is a good site for networking help and instructions.

If you are running XP Home, you will not be able to join a domain. You need Pro for that. =============
