I have a windows 2003 domain with a windows 2003 file server on that domain. I can successfully connect to the file server if I browse \\serverA.

We want to be able to browse the same server, same file shares if I type in \\serverB.

How do I do that?

I tried to just create a CNAME alias in DNS called serverB pointing back to the ip address of serverA, but that didn't work.

HELP!!

Browsing servers using \\servername does not use DNS but netBios. Are you running WINS in your environment?

Yes, we have WINS. I have added a static mapping in WINS for serverB.

When I try to browse the share using \\serverB, I get a windows explorer window to come right up however I do not see any of the serverA shares. Its just a blank window. Its almost as if the redirection of names are working but there is still something preventing me from seeing serverA's shares
