we have a 3rd party report web page product - which allows setup of report criteria, parameters and scheduled running. very nice.

one feature i liked was the ability to setup and run the same report with different options - including database

however, now i am told the v10 version of CR is storing the fully qualified name for each table in the report:

database.dbo.table_name

and therefore, if i cannot setup parameters and run the same report - for 2 differently named - but identical data bases.

this apparently was NOT the case in cr9.

they mentioned that they are not sure if there is a way to prevent Crystal from storing the fully qualified name to the table - I know that in earlier versions one could modify that but could not find a way to do it in v10.

i would appreciate any help to resolve this problem.

thank you

You remove fully qualified name in the same way as you did for CR9.

Database -> Set data source location.

Click on + by table name and then next +
Double click Fully qualified table name and type in Table name.

Repeat for each table.

I love this forum. It beats any other i've found so far.

Ian - You are 100% correct. I had tried several other unsuccessful methods with which i was aware. Several were quite convoluted (duplicate system dsns, etc.)

Your suggestion, is easy and neat and resolved my problem.

I thank you very much.

i think my software vendor will thank you as well...they were just as stumped.

Tell your software vendor that they can programmatically strip the table qualifiers. In my software, I provide an ini file option (Strip_Table_Qualifiers=True) that requests that action. That way, you don't have to dive into all your reports and main reports and do this manually.

Ido

Which of your software does this. rpt inspector makes the same claim and I had great trouble using it.

I would like to give it a try.

Hi Ian,

Both DataLink Viewer as well as Visual CUT provide this option . It is needed because the user can interactively select a different ODBC DSN and also command line calls to view or process a report can specify an ODBC DSN as an argument.

However, my software does this "on the fly" while opening & running the report -- I don't change the saved .rpt file itself. To get a new version of the .rpt file with stripped table qualifiers, you would need to export the report from DataLink Viewer or Visual CUT to a Crystal report format.

Cheers,

Thank you Ido. I have notified the vendor.
