Been getting on line using wireless access point connected to a dsl modem. Web connection works good but cannot connect Outlook Express 6.0 to incomming POP server. Socket Error 1006 is displayed. Any one had experience connecting OE wirelessly?

If you can browse the web with the wireless connection, then the connection is working & is not related to your OE problem. What is the full text of the error message & what antivirus & firewall are being used?

as smah stated this is not an OE problem.

OE by design uses IE as a sort of 'gateway' or to atate it another way relies upon IE to function.

If you are connecting via IE your OE troubles arfe in account setings most likely.

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'ipostoffice.worldnet.att.net', Server: 'ipostoffice.worldnet.att.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
Thanks for getting back on this wireless thing. The problem is in getting OE to connect as you can see from the error message. There are a few choices that come up in the accounts config under the connection tab. I have tried them all with no success. No antivirus software is enabled and the XP embedded firewall is enabled. Thanks again

'ipostoffice.worldnet.att.net',
I hope that this is a typo...but drop the 'i' before postoffice this is only used if connecting via another ISP than the ATT.net

As these POP3 things are very particular to "exact" syntax, go back and insure that each entry is complete. i.e. when asked for the user usually not just the name like 'myusername' but 'myusername@xxx.com(net) or the full mail address.

From the ATT site
POP3 server: postoffice.worldnet.att.net or
postoffice.att.net (Port 110)
User Name: your e-mail ID*
Password: your e-mail password
SMTP server: mailhost.worldnet.att.net or
mailhost.att.net (Port 25)

Still having problems see this link for verifying you settings:

If accessing from another ISP see this link

Hope this helps you get connected properly

rvn: checked all settings and it seems I am not useing the correct network connection. Per the help files you sent me, there is no ATT Worldnet Service Connection listed in the drop down. When I attempt to create a connection, the choices are limited to LAN, Broadban, dialup, and I think the fourth choice is VPN. Any way look at this:

"Ensure that there is a checkmark beside the Always connect to this account using option.

The box below should show your AT&T Worldnet Service connection. If not, select your AT&T Worldnet Service connection from the drop-down menu.

Click the Apply button, click the OK button, and then click the Close button."

The text between the quotes is from the help files. OE needs to find the wireless signal and it is not doing so.
In the network connections folder, the wireless connection is there and connected. The signal is as strong as possible. Whadaya think? Thanks.

After some thought, I agree with you guys about the connection being there because IE works perfectly, but alas, OE can't reach the server. It's no biggie. I'll just use the web mail client. Thanks again.

There still may be something with those server settings. Check all the settings carefully including port numbers & authentication. There is a server at that address, but it does not seem to be listening on port 110.

Here are some general troubleshooting steps:

No antivirus?????????

Open OE, select > tools > accountd > add > mail

Then enter the settings according to the links if this is not where you have been trying.
