how to confiure the ssh

hi everyone, I need help to configure the ssh on my 10.20 hp sever.
the ssh version is openssh - 2.9p2.
when I do ./configure, it give me a error--below is the output

loading cache /config.cache
checking for gcc.... gcc
checking whether C compiler (gcc)works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problemL: C compiler cannot creat executables.


I check the C compiler on my machine and it worked fine.

I'll appreciate anyone could help
