How to configure WebLogic Security using iPlanet Directory Server

Hello all,

I (newbie) need to configure WebLogic 6.1's security Realm using iPlanet Directory Service (I am using 4.0, but I guess tips for 5.0 should work too).

I have read through the WLS administration guide (

and ran through the steps. I think what I am missing is what users and groups do I need to create in iPlanet Directory Service before the Realm would work.

Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

1. Configure an custom realm and set t
server.host=yourhost
userPasswordAttribute=userpassword
membership.filter=(&(uniquemember=%M) (objectclass=groupOfUniqueNames))
server.port=your port number
group.dn=ou=Groups,o=company.com
group.filter=(&(cn=%g) (objectclass=groupofuniquenames))
server.principal=cn=Directory Manager
user.dn=o=company.com
groupNameAttribute=cn
groupUsernameAttribuite=uniquemember
user.filter=(&(uid=%u) (objectclass=person))
userNameAttribute=uid


2. Set the password for Directory Manager
3. Create caching realm to use this realm
4. In Security main tab go to FileRealm and select the caching realm you just created.

That should be it
