mkdev tape. If replacement then you need to remove previous. see the manual page.
run it from root. kernel will be rebuilt to access it after reboot. Ed Fair

Yes `mkdev tape`
I hope that you got the version of sco wrong.
If you are running 5.0.2 then i would suggest that you find someway to upgrade to at least 5.0.4
