Hi
I have a new Dell PowerVault 110T Dlt1 Tape Drive. I want to attach to my sunbox of Enterprise 420R running Solaris 5.8 to backup the sybase database, what and how can I do?
Any configuration should be done on Sybase or just setting up on OS of Sun box and I can use the "dump" command to back up the database?
Thanks.

hello,

you would need to consult your solaris SA manual to install and configure your tape device with your unix box... you can also check out the following URL for procedures:

on the sybase side...

you would need to add the dump device to the SQL server by running the following SQL:

sp_addumpdevice "tape", logical_name, physical_name, size
go

then you can backup...

dump database database_name to device_name
go

remember dumping locally, you can use the logical_name or physical_name...
remotely, you need to use the physical_name.

hth,
q.

Thanks

We are in the progress of purchasing the hardware first, then I will give it a try and will let you know what happening.
