Hi
Just brought 4 samsung ML-4500 laser printers as they were pretty cheap for the office.

I'v decided to make our sun ultra 5 the printer server(seeing as it was only doing mail duties).
Plugged all the cables, clicked print and .......noting.
All the happend was the data light on the printer blinked once.
So, I tried the printer with a windows machine, that worked fine.
The CD that came with the printers also had linux drivers. SO I assumed that the printer would work in solaris, but neay.
Does anyone know how I could configure the printer in Solaris.
BTW a note came with the printer saying it was a non-postscript level 2 GDI printer. If that means anything to someone.
please help...

I already configured HP Jetadmin printer and Intel print server. The printers can work well with solaris.
I need some information from you.
1. What did you have parallel/Serial/Ethernet printer ?
2. Could you get the printer driver for solaris from Samsung ?
Because you configured the printer from admintool. And the default printer for Solaris is dot matrix printer.

If your printer was parallel printer and couldn't get the printer driver for Solaris from Samsung. I will suggest you to buy Intel/hp print server. But you make sure that print server software can support solaris and have Samsung printer driver or compatiable with Samsung printer. You can set from print server software for non-postscript level 2.

Maybe my experience can help you.
