i'm not an expert in this, but as i know squid is a http proxy - it can handle ftp requests only typed into browser window
if you want to use ftp, ssh, telnet or anything else - masquerading is the answer

Hi,

Squid is a http proxy only. If the ftp client software supports http you just have to configure the proxy settings to point to port 3128 on the squid server, i.e. the same as for a browser. For others, like ws-ftp pro, as far as I know the only way is by using transproxy on the linux box to convert ftp requests to http --> .

Perhaps a bit easier would be to use IP masquerading (source nat) on the linux box for ftp traffic rather than proxying. You set this up with simple ipchains / iptables rules.

Hope this helps
