How to configure a SIS900 LAN 10/100 built into the mother board..

I often set data file server using linux operating system. and.. again often get into the situation with built in lan cards (the todays one is SIS900 LAN. I dont know to configure these cards and I never got the linux drivers for them. SO I always disable the built in LAN and install RealTek based cards or 3 com cards. Can any one help me to configure this card or give a suggestion.

well.. u could first check and see if u have it on your list of network modules... you can find those in /lib/modules/2.2.1x/net/.... from there, check for a module called sis900.o.. if it exists, u're in luck.. and can make this a loadable module upon boot..... u will have to edit the /etc/modules.conf file and add this line...

alias eth0 sis900

save and exit.... of course eth0 can be eth1 or eth2, depending on what your interface numbers are.... after this, activate the device and reboot....

I found the sis900 driver from some place and downloaded the driver. However this is a .gz file. I used pkunzip and did the unzip in a Win OS computer. I dont know how to port it to Linux and how to incorporate it/compile it whatever.

My Linux Box up and running as a file server. I used an additional network card RealTek and so the Linux Server is accessible from the Win98 units.

Now can any one help how to make the SIS900 lancard (built in) to work.

Thanks AKNIT I will use this info.. but I need to put in this SIS900.o....
Also I do have this sis900.o in my Linux server, but eth0 associated withit is failing.
