Hi all,
I have taken ownership of small wireless network, using an Orinoco WavePointII access point. I have the newest AP manager (according to the orinoco site) and am trying to get into the machine to upgrade the firmware. When AP manager opens, it shows 192.168.0.1 as online, along with the name, serial#, and MAC of the device. Then after a few seconds it says "scan denied", and has a question mark by the ip address, and at the bottom of AP manager, where the ip address of what I want to config goes, it says 'unknown'.

When I try to edit, it asks for a password, prompting with 'public'. The previous guy said he left all the defaults intact, ie, didn't change any passwords. But trying this password gives me 'device unreachable' error. Same with trying 'root', 'admin', '' (blank) passwords.

Bottom line--can I reset this device? How would I do that (no obvious pinholes on the box), or what can I do to fix this thing?
Thanks for any help,
--Jim

Hi Jim,

If you can't connect to the AP, then the reasons could be:

incorrect IP address
incorrect network name
incorrect password

Beyond that, you have no option but to re-set the AP.
This can be a bit fiddly - but the full instructions should be on the Orinoco web-site. Personally, I've found the Avaya site easier to get around & generally more helpful, which is at (it refers to exactly the same model of AP); you need the instructions called "how to perform a forced re-load". Good luck...

PS.

Of course - you have checked that you're on the same network as the AP (192.168.0.1) - haven't you....?

mro,
Thanks...I ended up downloading new firmware, doing the forced reload, and all is fine now,
