How to combine 2 lines.

(I posted this under general telephony also; didn't see this one at the time.)

My friend and her husband want to get DSL and install themselves. Awhile back they got a 2nd phone line which only runs to their PC on one jack. How can they attach that 2nd line to their main line so they can cancel that 2nd number when they order the DSL? Thanks.

At the network interface, where the phone company servivce comes in to their house splice the two wires together.

take one jack apart that has line one on it ..the line they are keeping.

take the jack apart that has line two...the line they are dropping

now look at the wires that are hooked to the red and the green screws on the line one jack and use the same wires on the line two jack

most likley blue wht blue for line one and orange wht orange for line two ...

thats the simpest way and should work in 95% of the installs if it dosnt come back and we will get a bit more complex.
