how to clean items on history bar

Here is what I am looking for. I need to remove all items under history bar without deleted items under address bar. Whenever I tried with 'clear history' under 'general tab' under 'internet options', all items under history bar and address bar is removed. By this I am loosing all the web address from the address bar, which I don't want to.
Please also let me know if there is a way that no items is written under history bar.

to keep no history, set the history to 0 days in internet options

I believe that IE's history folder and the addresses in the address bar drop-down list get their info from the same place. You can not delete the history without clearing the drop-down list addresses. Why not just save the sites that you want to return to as 'favorites'?
