Hi all

When I set my SPS up, I specified a test url. I'm now happy with my setup but I want to be able to change the url for the users so they can just open a browser and type and that's it, but I don't seem to be able to change my " to
Any ideas?

Thanks

Open IIS managment console. Click on web sites. Right click on your sharepoint site. Add a host header for the new url.

I've been having a similar problem when creating an additional URL for a Sharepoint site, except that simply adding the new host header in IIS does not work properly. When browsing to the site using the new URL, I am presented with a page saying:

"The Web site that is referenced here is not in the configuration database."

The public DNS has been updated to include the new URL, as has the Hosts file on the IIS server for testing internally; but the problem still occurs. However, when using the orginal URL everything works perfectly.

The only possible factor I can think, is that we are using HTTPS rather than just HTTP - is this likely to cause a problem or require an additional configuration in IIS?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Have you tried to just use HTTP?

Yes, I tried using just HTTP, but for some reason still had the same problem.

However, I have since made progress using another method ...using the Stmadm.exe command line. I took a backup of the original site, created the new site with the new host header in IIS, extended it in Sharepoint (but did not apply a template), then restored the backed-up site over the top. This now seems to have worked.

The reason I didn't try this method earlier was due to earlier unsuccessful attempts at doing the same thing with the Smigrate.exe tool, which would constantly fail on the restoration, hence me being a bit skeptical about any other command line based methods ...plus I thought adding a new host header would be the simplest method.

Hope this helps anyone else having similar problems.
