Good-day,

How do I properly change the Trunk Access Code on my PBX system.

I already tried to change it in MB 11-09 - which required me to change 11-01. Everything worked after I made the change, except for our fax machines. They could no longer get a dial-tone and I have a feeling it's because of the way those lines are setup to access the trunk. None of these fax lines require the dialing of the trunk access code, so I believe this may be preset in the line configuration. But I can't find the setting to adjust.

The reason we're seeking to change the Trunk Access Code is because some folks are inadvertently dialing 9-1-1 and we're getting a lot of complains from the local authorities. So I was asked if it was possible to change it to another number. Well, I accessed the WebPro and made the change but then got this undesired result, so I'm coming here for some help.

Thanks and I hope to get a response soon.

I do not recommend this change. You are setting yourself up for a big law suit. If someone dials 911 and cannot get out there will be a huge issue. Even if you instruct employees to dial 811, in a panic they will still try 911. I have done this before for customers, but only after I get a signed letter on their letterhead instructing me to do so.

Changing the line access code will not prevent people calling 911. It will stop them accidentally dialing 9911 as they will now have to dial 8911 (or whatever you change the first digit to) to get emergency services. Make sure you put a label on the phones to advise people how to dial 911 and that should cover you and if 911 gets dialed, you will know someone has deliberately done it!

@belevedere and @OzzieGeorge: Thanks to both of you for your kind responses. However, I still need help on how to properly change it. As I mentioned earlier, I was able to find the MB 11-09 and 11-01 - which effectively allowed me to change it. However, that broke my analog lines (fax mostly) and they don't get a dial tone. Can you offer some suggestions on which MB controls these lines?

The FAX ports probably have prime line selection set up to dial 9 and not 8.
