I know this may seem trivial, but we have a client that operates several companies in Great Plains... and they may have more than one company open at each time... on the same workstation.

Is there a way to change the verbiage on the program button on the taskbar according to our own user preferences? For example, we might create a Windows shortcut for Company A, and another one for Company B... but now the program name in the taskbar just says: Microsoft Business Solutions - Great Plains. Any way to change this verbiage?

This is a feature of Omni Notify, which I wrote before joining Microsoft. Have a look at the products page of

Thanks, Dave... I downloaded the demo copy and we'll likely use it in a demo tomorrow... Too bad the notify function only works for the sample company... what we really wanted to show them was multiple buttons on the taskbar, each with different company names. Any way we can get "timed" registration keys for this?

I'm surprised users are allowed to have more than one company open at a time. We have run into problems with incorrect data being displayed on drop-down lists in the past, and therefore don't allow this. Maybe it has been addressed in a servicepack.

Thanks!

Hmmmm.... glad you mentioned that since we're just doing it in a test environment. I'll pose that question in its own thread. Thanks for the heads up!

But just a quick back-at-ya... David Musgrave implied above that it can be done... and if he says so, I'd pretty much bet on it being ok.... David?

The unique indentifier for the login is User ID AND Company ID. This means that any one user is allowed to log into more than one company, but can only log into each company once.

I have written a VBA example which will prevent users from logging into more than one company. Contact me if you are interested.

PS: Contact Winthrop (address on website) to request timed keys.

You will have problems exporting from SmartList if you have multiple instances open. I think there were a couple other problems but I know for sure about SmartList. MBS just said that it's not a supported use to have multiple instances going on one workstation.

The one problem that we had was in the lookup lists. For example, the GL Account list showed the other company's accounts. This also occurred if you used File > User & Company instead of exiting and going back in from the outside. As I said before it may have been fixed with a SP.

Thanks!
