How to change NDR ? 1

When I set up Windows 2000 Server, I set up the domain as company.local, but our public address is
I have addedd DNS entries for fulcompanyname.com and all e-mail coming to mail.fullcompanyname.com is correctly handled by Exchange 2000 Server, but when an NDR is generated, the user is informed that the message was sent from company.local instead of from fullcompanyname.com

How (where) can I change the way Exchange 2000 produces the NDR so that it reflects our public domain name and not our internal domain name?

The NDR is generated based on the primary smtp address in the default recipient policy. If you open ESM, expand recipients and open the default policy, you will see that the primary smtp address is @fullcompanyname.local.
If you haven't already done so you need to install the exchange post SP3 Rollup patch
After you've done this you can modify the default recipient policiy smtp address to @yourcompanyname.com
This way all NDR's will come from @yourcompanyname.com
 
Thanks for the input, but in the default policy, the SMTP address is already @fullcompanyname.com but the NDRs still come from @company.local

Any other thoughts?

When an NDR is generated it is generated as postmaster@yourcompany.com and this is based on the settings defined in the default recipient policy. I spent months sorting this out for one of our clients and could only do so after the post sp3 fix came out. Their domain was also acompany.local and changing the default recipient policy before the post sp3 fix was released prevented mail from being sent across the LAN. Forgive my silly q's but firstly have you run the post sp3 fix? And secondly are you sure the default recipient policy has a primary address of youcomapny.com. It has to be the default recipient policy and not a policy you've created yourself.
Like I say, I did loads of research on this, and am sure that when an NDR is generated, it is based on the criteria in the default recipient policy.
 
I installed Exchange 2000, SP3, and the post-SP3 rollout before configuring it. I have not added any custom policies. When I examine the default policy it has only 2 entries, and X400 entry and an SMTP entry. The SMTP entry has @fullcompanyname.com as the only address.
 
Hang on, I'm not correctly stating the problem.

Here's an example of the ndr:

The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to. Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient directly to find out the correct address.
<machinename.company.local #5.1.1>


I want the last line to read:
<mail.fullcompanyname.com #5.1.1>

I am getting a bit confused (I'm easily confused) When the NDR is generated from your system, if the default recipient policy has an address of @yourcompany.com then the NDR should be sent to the original sender from postmaster@yourcompany.com. Is this the case?
You can nominate an account within the properties of the smtp connector>messages where you want a copy of NDR's to be sent.
"I want the last line to read:
<mail.fullcompanyname.com #5.1.1>"
This is defined within the same smtp property>delivery>advanced under fully qualified domain name enter mail.fullcompanyname.com
 
I found the source of the problem!

It seems that the mail filtering program "GFI mail essentials" creates it's own NDR instead of triggering Exchange's NDR. It was that program where my problem was originating, and not Exchange.
