How to change Log Reader number of tries ?

I´m using transactional replication between SQL 2000 servers and everything is ok.

But during the night the system administrator stop SQL Server to backup the databases (I don´t know why !!)

After this stop, the Log Reader agent fail because he tried a number of times and after this, he stopped.

Is there any way to change this number of tries and the interval between the tries ??
