Hi,

just bought a 3COM OfficeConnect Dual Speed switch 5. I changed from a router to a switch, so I can have different IP-adresses on all of my internet connected computers.

The problem is that I want to switch IP-adresses, so one of the computers gets another computers IP-adress and vice verse. How can I change the automated distribution of IP on an unmanaged switch? It seems like the switch remembers the computers MAC-adresses and gives each computer the same IP even after restart and/or changing network cables. I can't found any reset button on this switch...

Regards
David

All switches are just layer 2 devices and hence only deal with MAC addresses. They don't look at, inspect, not distribute IP addresses to workstations.
You will need either a DHCP server on the network or another router that can act as a DHCP server.
