Hello.

I need to change the server name where I have SharePoint installed. The guy who set it up forgot to take the appended numbers added to the server name when he first installed the server, so in essence the default SharePoint URL is instead of the desired for example.

I thought it would be simple enough to just change the server name but that just leaves SharePoint nonfunctional.
Is there a way around changing the server name as in the like aforementioned example?

I have tried to use the stsadm.exe solution, but to no avail.

Thanks in advance.

Hello cmv131. Thank you for the reply.
I went to Central Admin and changed the address for the default zone, however the new address goes to a "cannot display webpage". (dead link).
Is there a step I may be missing?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, yes. You need to get an entry put in your corporate DNS server having it map to the IP Address of the server so machines on your network know how to get there.

Thank you. I suppose there is no easier way around it, rather a way without having to make a DNS change. Super red tape for us developers here to do that.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Sharepoint configuration.

A virtual machine ate my accounting data. I transferred it to a physical box, then I beat it to smithereens with a sledgehammer. I feel better.
