Hi,

I am completely new to Linux stuff.

I had installed redhat linux 7.3 server on a box
with all default configuration.

Somewhere during installation i had set the video
configuration to 16bit and 1024 x 768 resolution.

And the default is GNOME boot.

And the server when it boot and comes to login screen , gives a weird screen which is not visible and says
OUT OF RANGE error on the monitor .

How can i change these settings ?
I am completely new to the Linux stuff , i cant
see any screen , is there a way i can change these settings
by going to some other modes ?

Please let me know step-by-step.

Redhat Linux 7.3
Grub boot loader

try xf86cfg to configure your X-settings.

Otherwise you also could edit the Xf86config-file located in /etc/X11/Xf86config

Hope this helps

But how can i do this changes ?

The redhat linux default boots into GUI login screen
which is so weird ,that i can't even read the screen.

The system is by default booting into GNOME ( which i cant
even read bc'z of the screen settings).

How can i change the boot mode to TEXT instead of GUI,
so that i can do the changes what you asked me to do
and then reert back to GUI login( GNOME) .

--thanks

hi,

set your line id:5:initdefault: in /etc/inittab to id:3:initdefault:

you change from runlevel 5 to 3.

Alternatively Ctrl-Alt-Backspace will kill the X server, or Ctrl-Alt-F1 (... F2, F3, etc.) will switch to one of the text consoles.
