How to change character set of Samba2 files to that of Samba3 (UTF-8)

I have recently updated to Samba3 form Samba2 and alas, several of my files containing such characters as ü ö ä are now appearing mangled under Samba3.

Is there any easy way of correcting this?

I have heared of conmv but I can't find a version for SGI IRIX.
