A number of my tapes have been filled up and are now displaying 'None' in the Append attribute field.

I would like to put these tapes back into circulation and start again with a 'Infinite' value - I do not care what happens to the existing data on the tape, I just want to erase/format/initialise.. whatever and get the tape back in a writable state.

I have tried a short erase, which put the tape in the 'scratch' media set - when I moved it to my active set it still showed as 'None', so I created a new media set with the 'Infinite' append value and moved it to there, still no change.

There must be a easy way of carrying out this simple operation?

Can anyone tell me how!!

Find the tape in Media view, and drag it into Scratch media. It will then be available for overwrite, and consequently appends after the first overwrite.

What version of Backup Exec are you using?

You can do a quick, complete wipe of the tape by selecting LABEL MEDIA.

EB,

Explain myself better, a brand new tape or a tape in scratch media, or a tape which has just been erased or labeled, will always have an append period of None, as you need to overwrite the tape first, before any appends can happen.

Just drag it into Scratch media, and when backup exec needs it, it will use it, and then put it into the media set specified by the backup.

Thanks for the quick reply's

I am using version 8.5, I think ill try wiping the media with the LABEL MEDIA command, then drag to scratch.

Thanks for your help,
