Hi all,

just inherited an Exchange 5.5 server to be fully responsible for, and one issue which has been flagged ages ago and not resolved, apparently, relates to auto archive for users.

It looks like a global policy to enforce archiving has been applied, but i've no idea where to check this. The issue is that although most users are archiving correctly, some of the users find that only their sent items folder is being archived, nothing else, and also that their archiving is being done to a different location to everyone else's.

I've never had to look after an exchange 5.5 box before, so was really after some pointers about where I can find the policy, so I can check what should be happening, and then try and find out why it isn't for some users.

many thanks for any help or info,

Chris

Archiving messages in mailbox folders is a function of the Outlook client not the Exchange server. At the server, you can run a "purge" using the Mailbox Cleanup Agent, however this is not an archiving function. Take a look at the Outlook client under Tools, Options, on the "Other" tab you will find the Auto-Archive settings. The differences between one client and another will most likely be found in each Outlook client configuration. After checking the Auto-Archive default client setting, check the properties of the folders in the mailbox to see if auto-archive has been set up for the folder in question.

Hope this helps.

The Mailbox Manager server addin can process messages from folders and action them according to class, age etc. Perhaps this has been set up on your server?
