Hello,
I'm about to ask for quotes to purchase an air conditioning unit for my server room. How would I calculate the heat dissipation from my equipment. For some equipment, I was able to find out the info from the spec sheets but not for all. Can I calculate it from the watts the power supply draws ?
Here's what I have as equipment :
4 * Pix 501 (got the heat dissipation for that)
1 * Pix 506e (got the heat dissipation for that)
3 * DL360 G1 (dual 550mhz) with 2 10K RPM 18.2G
2 * DL360 G1 (dual 733mhz) with 4 10K RPM 18.2G
7 * APC 1500VA RM (got the heat dissipation for that)
1 * LG L1750s LCD Monitor (always turned off when not in use)
6 * SE7501HG2 Intel servers (dual xeon 2.8GHz) with 5 15K RPM 73GB HD and Dual Power supplies
1 * APC 1000VA Tower (got the heat dissipation for that)
1 * Dell PE2800 (dual xeon 3.0GHz) with 6 15K RPM 73GB HD and Dual Power supplies
1 * Belkin KVM 4-Port rack mount
1 * Belkin KVM 8-Port rack mount
1 * 3Com 16 port switch
2 * Cisco 837 ADSL Routers
Future additions short term will be : around 3 more PE2800 as above, 3 more APC 1500VA RM, a few Pix 501.
Room size is about 20 feet long x 10 feet wide by 7 feet high.
I discovered that you can have a water cooled air conditionning unit that doesn't require an outside condensor and no exhaust. It only requires a water supply and water return. They look like a small fridge in the corner of the room. During the winter days, we have temperatures -30 Celsius temperatures which renders most smaller size condensors useless.
Room is currently cooled by 2 small danby house air conditionning units with building A/C. Temperature is 23 Celcius. As soon as the 2 small A/C stop, temperature can increase to 29 Celcius in a mater of 1 hour.
I would like the temperature to be around 19 Celcius all the time.
thanks
