I have an image (.iso) that is about 1.2 GB. Is there a program that will automatically split the image as it tries to copy it onto more than one CD? I know Nero won't do it, because when I try to copy the image to a CD, it tells me that the media will only hold 700MB.
Thanks

This is DVD sized. Was the image intended for a DVD? Even if there is a way, it seems unlikely that it would work as intended if you split it (whatever is on the first CD, would never know to look for the second cd).

I'm not for one minute suggesting that this should be used here... But didn't PKZIP have the ability to split a large file up over several floppy disks?

Smah you are correct, it mostlikely is a DVD...

G0A0Z - so does WinRAR and I believe WinZip...

@guy1978 - us a Virtual CD (ie. Alcohol 120%, Deamontools, SlySoft VirtualCD) to mount the DVD, that way you can at least access it... for burning, purchase a DVD Burner and the correct media...

Guy1978,
Just use a zipping utility like the ones mentioned above to split the file into 2 or more smaller files.

If this isn't what you're looking for, then please indicate what it is you want to be able to do with this file once it's on CD.

The Microsoft backup use to be able to do this. I have taken a large MP3 and put it on two floppies.

If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

Or do a google search for "file splitters". You just have to restore it before you can use it.

Any backup software should be able to do this. The file will, of course, will need to be restored before it can be used.

You can't split an image up. That's why it's called an image, and not just a file.

A file is a file. Backup software can split it just like any other file. It can't be used in the backed up form, but it can be written out and restored. Most files can be directly accessed if they are split between two devices unless raid or mainframe type of configuration is being used.

You can split the file onto multiple disks, but it will be useless until re-assembled. This is most likely a DVD image. Once you get it to whatever system you need it to, you can re-assemble the file (using whatever splitter you used) and then mount the ISO as suggested above. That will allow you to read it without using an actual disc.
