How to build reports in SharePoint

Hi to All,
I'm new to this forum, and to SharePoint in general. I have a question for you guys. I've read that I can use Sharepoint with SQL Server Reporting Tools to build reports for. However my understanding is that all SSRS will allow me to do is to create a report that can be executed on sharepoint. Is there a way i can make it dynamic. Meaning if I have a script that wants to build a report in a date range, can i give the date range from sharepoint and pull the report?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

With SSRS you can make a report with the data from a Sharepoint list or Document Library, so if you want to draw a parameter from a SharePoint list you can pretty easily do that to make the report dynamic.
