If someone had a fast internet connection, a router lab, how would they go about making it accessible via the internet? How do these big online labs work? Do the connect via telnet over the internet to an access server?(lots of routers do not allow port 23, and how would they connect to managable power centers? via 2511?), do they use terminal server? again, how do they connect to both routers and manageable power centers(smart ups for cycling equipment remotely). I was just wondering how this works, and im sure other people are interested as well, if anyone has a setup running(fairly large) give us the config, or what are you all using, ie access server, telnet, term server, ect.. thanks

Give you the config? what ever happened to researching a question on one's own?

The short version is yes, you can use a terminal server with Radius or TACACS as security. As far as telnet goes, there are a couple of ways to do this.. straight telnet, Java based telnet client or encapsulation of telnet through port 80.

Normally the terminal server will sit in a DMZ zone with a public or NATed IP address. there will be a firewall/router to provide a layer of security. The DMZ keeps unwanted guests off your private network but will still give you access to the resources on the DMZ.

LIke many things there is more then a single way to do this but these notes are the more popular.
