I need some general guidance on how to build something like an invoice report where you have header information, then some detail records, and finally some totals at the bottom. Do you use a subreport for the detail lines? What controls do I use for the different sections? As you can see, I need some assistance.

really depends on teh exact layout of your data

Would've thought you can do it all in 1 report with a couple of tables

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colours but they all live in the same box.

Thanks Geoff. What I have is a table returned form an SQL proceduere that joins the invoice header table and the invoice detail table. This returns a table with N rows of data containing both the header and detail information. The problem I'm having is I want to be able to position labels and fields in a free form mode because I have many different types of fields I need in the header info. If I use a table control I can't do this, if I use a List control, it will repeat the info for every record. There must be something simple I'm missing here. This type of report must be fairly common where you have header and detail information.

Yup - based on last response, was going to suggest eith er2 tables in a list control or some textboxes for the header info and a table for the detail, again within a list control. The key, I think is in the group setup

Thanks Geoff. The part I was missing from the start (why I don't know) was the grouping on the list control to prevent repeating the header info. I also downloaded a back button icon to place on the report because this report is being called thru a jump to URL.

ooooh - "Back Button" - do you have a link for that?
