How to build a search engine ?

I've built a web site and now, I must add a feature : "a search engine".
I want to know how should I proceed to make a search engine and add it to my web site.
A web site that explain that will be very helpful.

Check out

or other javascript sites on the internet. They have easily configurable search scripts that you can literally cut and paste into your site to add that functionality.
