how to break search results into alpha segments? a-e, f-j, k-o, etc...

i got how to break into pages, but how about into these alpha segments?

how do i break up search results to be displayed in alphabetical segments...

such as:

show A-E | show F-J | show K-Z

assuming the above were links, the results would be only those that started with A,B,C,D,E and so on.
