How to become a system guru

I am a QA tester who is looking to develop himself. I have recently done some work on Unix which has inspired to learn Perl, Bourne and Korn scripting.

I have been trying to learn Java, as well as RDBMS in Oracle. I know HTML and aspire to becoming a web system guru in 5 yrs.

I do not have an IT background however I have worked as a QA tester. Basically, I want to know if what I am learning will allow me to attain my goal?
