Hello
I have one AIX Server with Tape Drive and other Solaris Server without tape drive.
I want to backup Solaris Filesystems on to AIX though Network .

Is there any solutions for the same. Please Let me know.

Use "NFS" to mount the Sun directory onto the AIX server.

Bill.

as what bjverzal suggested try NFS:

1. exporting SUN FS - (in AIX, use mknfsexp)

2. mount exported FS in AIX (mknfsmnt)

i've never tried this, but would be nice if you could give us feedback.

the best way is ...

take the backup of filesystem using tar or cpio

ex: taking backup of /etc dirctory from sun system onto aix tape drive

sun# tar cvf - /etc/* |rsh aix of=/dev/rmt0

where sun : sun system name
aix: aix system name
tape device = /dev/rmt0

being in sun system u can take the backup onto aix tape.

please make sure that the .rhosts are filled with hostnames for 'rsh'.

Thanks Everyone
I am using the bcakup utility called System Backup and recovery for AIX . When i mounted the Sun Filesystem as NFS , this was not visible from this tool only JFS Filesystem is shown . I can See the NFS filesystem using mount command on AIX .
I will try to use Tar command and try as said by Nagaraj

Thanks for replies
