Hi, I have a Cisco 2600 router. I need to backup the current configuration so that I can restore it once i have finished playing around with it. Does anyone know how i can back the config up onto my computer?
I will suggest do not go for copy - pest. But you can always have run-config copied in txt file. This option you can use with browser ( GUI ) base configuration mode. YOu can use putty or xmanager software will help you in copy this messy stuff.
copy start tftp is a best option recomended by cisco and schofs.
you can also get ciscoconfig maker from Ciscowebsite for free. This will download and save your config file, failing that you can also save your config file to flash!
If you have room (check with dir nvram: ) you can just make a copy i.e.
copy nvram:startup-config nvram:saveconf
and that's that.
Still, if you have a TFTP server available that would be the best option.
I'm not an expert at copy paste method but I find it unruly because you need to manually put exit statements after certain parts or your paste will go wanky out of context. Maybe there's a better way I don't know about.
