Dear All,
Can you tell me how to backup Oracle8i remotely,
1.two NT4 server (one is PDC ,the other is BDC)
2.Oracle 8i server install on PDC
3.Arcserve install on BDC

What can I have to do to backup database of Oracle 8i
Does "Agent for NR/W2K" be need.
if need ,Why "clinet for Arcserve agent "service can not be started.

Thanks in advanced!

The client agent for NT/2000 is an Operating System agent that is capable of pushing the data of your PDC to the ARCserve server ( the BDC ).
An Oracle Agent is needed to backup your Oracle 8i database on the PDC.
For your environment you need at least:
- 1 x ARCserve 2000 Advanced Edition ( includes 5 NT/2000 client agents )attached to a tape device
- 1 x backup agent for Oracle
Database agents like the Oracle Agent backup and restore from a different perspective than regular backups because they use the databases own backup functionality to do 'hot-online' backups/restores. Try the agent for the trial period of 30 days to find out if it suits your needs, otherwise you will waste your money on it

hope this helps

Cyklops

Thanks for Cylops' help.
But I cannot resovle my problem.
1.Oracle database cannot be backuped
2.Client Agent for NT/2000 cannot start
it has an error message "1069 error,Applacation Terminated inccidently "and Lissence violation,

Sounds like you didn't succeed to get your licensing right.
If you don't register properly or don't register at all ARCserve and everty option installed will terminate after 30 days ( the live-trial period ). Check your NT application log for CA_LIC errors.
Check this :
on how to use RegisterIT.
You also have to read the pdf manual of the agent, located on the ARCserve CD-ROM under 'docs', carefully. As ARCserve is using Oracle security to get inside the databases this has to be set properly.

Thanks for cyklops help,I have solved this problem. And I have another problem,How can I backup my oracle database
Remotely
1.through Agent ?
2.through Network neiborhood?

Thanks in advance

both should work, but in my experience with database agents the safest way is through network
