Hi,
I am using win2k DNS server. We are changing our ISP. New ISP will provide a different set of IP addresses. Currently i have all the zones record with the old IP scheme (say 2.2.2.x). the new IP range will be 5.5.5.x(e.g.).
If we change the IPs for all the network PC and printers, I will have to go and add new zones records in DNS server and also delete the old ones. Is there a way that I can backup the existing zones files, then modify their IP address and reload back to DNS server? This will be more easy to create/delete zones record individually. It is quite similar to export a table from a database to a CSV file, modify the values (not the fields) and then import back to database?
I am looking for DNS too?
appriciate your help

Dns files are found here %systemroot%\system32\dns\*.dns.
You can use a text editor to edit them.

thanks for your reply,
But in 'dns' folder, I found four files
255.255.255.in-addr.arpa.dns
domain1.dns
domain2.dns
log.dns

IF you check administrative tools=>DNS, you see forward lookup and reverse lookup zones. In those you can find all zones records for all the network devices as A record.
for e.g.
<machine> IN A <ip address>

I am looking for those records to modify and then reload them back to DNS.
Or other wise I will have to open each and individual record, edit it to change the IP and then save it.
I hope you understand my issue now.
thanks

When you look at admin tools --> DNS each zone has a name.
That name should correspond to the file name you find in the systemroot\system32\dns folder. Opening that file with notepad should display the entries you see when you open the zone in admin tools --> dns.
