How to automatically stop mcafee virusscan

I wish to install the hotfix40 for viruscan v451 sp1
, on the instructions it says open control panel and select virusscan, click on stop.

Is there a way to do this automatically, so i can script the hotfix install ? ( i tried net stop mcshield, but that didn't work )

Try using McAfee AutoUpdate Architect.

If you don't want to use the McAfee AutoUpdate Architect (Personally I am waiting for it to become official and not a Beta product), you can use the scripts.

What I did was stopped the AVSyncMgr service. That will cause the McShield service to stop as well. I used this method after I found that clicking on VirusScan from within Control Panel and selecting stop performed the same function.

Of course when the official product comes out, I'll be using the AutoUpdate Architect.
