How to assign equipment resource to a task?

hi all,

I am totally new to Ms project world. So appologize for any stupid question.

I understand that resource code be money, people or equipment. My questions are:

1- how can i add a new equipment resouce to a project
2- how can i assigg it to a task

Hi yamjam,

For Qn1) In order to add new equipment, you need to go to view --> resource sheet. Choose the type as work.
Resource type work actually means people or equipment.

For Qn2) You just need to click on resource in the project guide. Then choose assign resource to task.

Appraently, I don't have. Type=work in my resource sheet.

I am using MSP 98. Do reckond we don't have it in MSP 98?

Hi yamjan,

If that is the case, i would recommend you to change it to ms project 2000 or 2002. Ms project 98 is very old and buggy. Many information are obsolete and hard to find.
Changing to project 2000 or 2002 only take a while.

Can I take this question a bit further?
I'd like to put some machines into the mix, and I know to choose material as the type. However, since I can't resource level it, I was wondering if there were some ideas how to restrict it's usage to 1 task at a time without effecting the duration of the task.

An example: I have 2 IT guys doing testing/install work on 1 machine. The tasks could be done simultaneously because they have different resources, or are not predecessor/successors, but the machine has to be used by both.

Any suggestions are welcome - other than get another machine
