Hello, I am promoting my only WIndow 2008 server (other DC's are 2003)to a DC. I have manually assigned an TCPIPv4 address for that server but when I run DC Promo I get a message saying that all TCP IP addresses must be manually configured (my TCPIP v6 is setup ad Dynamic). As of now my TCP IP v4 address is 192.168.1.3 but I am not sure what to enter for TCP IP v6?? It looks like it needs to be entered in a different way. How can I enter an IP adress for TCP IP v6?...and does it have to be the same address as the one specified in TCPIP v4? (192.168.1.2) or does it need to be something else? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

You should just be able to ignore the message and proceed if you have set a static IPv4 address.

- Build and Deploy the First Domain Controller

You may receive a warning message stating 'This computer has dynamically assigned IP address(es)'. You must ensure that the server has a statically assigned IPv4 address. However, you may still receive this message, due to the fact that IPv6 is enabled and set to DHCP by default. As long as you have a statically assigned IPv4 address, it is safe to ignore the message and continue.

You may receive a delegation warning. It is safe to ignore the message and continue.

If you are still having problems promoting the server, try disabling IPv6. Also, if you have more than one NIC on the server that is not in use, then try disabling those as well.

Q. How do I disable IPv6 in Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008?

A. Unlike Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, IPv6 in Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 cannot be uninstalled. However, you can disable IPv6 in Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 by doing one of the following:

In the Network Connections folder, obtain properties on all of your connections and adapters and clear the check box next to the Internet Protocol version 6 (TCP/IPv6) component in the list under This connection uses the following items.

This method disables IPv6 on your LAN interfaces and connections, but does not disable IPv6 on tunnel interfaces or the IPv6 loopback interface.
Add the following registry value (DWORD type) set to 0xFFFFFFFF:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip6\Parameters\DisabledComponents

This method disables IPv6 on all your LAN interfaces, connections, and tunnel interfaces but does not disable the IPv6 loopback interface. You must restart the computer for this registry value to take effect.

Thanks so much, you were 100% correct. I jsut ignored the message and it works ok!

Joey, be careful with disabling the IPv6. Some products require it. For example EBS which is based on Windows 2008 Server requires it for System Center Essentials. If you disable it, it totally freaks out.

I hope you find this post helpful.
